Urban Meyer Makes it Rain

Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer will be the highest paid coach in the SEC this college football season as it was announced Meyer signed a 6 year deal paying him $4 million dollars a year. ...Meyer with the help of quarterback Tim Tebow has won already won two National Championships in his four years coaching the Gators. Meyer made Florida boosters nervous when on a radio show the coach called Notre Dame his "dream job". Ironically, one of the two coaches who currently make more money than Meyer in NCAA football is Notre Dame's Charlie Weis who trails only USC's Pete Carroll for the college game's highest paid coach. With Tebow coming back for his senior year the Gators have to be the early favorite to win it all next year, but the real question will be what will happen in the following years. It will cost Meyer a hefty $500,000 to buy out of the contract if he chooses to leave before his current contract runs out.
How Charlie Weis fairs this year might play into Meyer's decision because the Notre Dame job could be up for grabs if things don't go well for the Fighting Irish in 2009. Regardless of the dollar signs, it would be hard to argue that Urban Meyer isn't the most successful coach in college football today. Only time will tell if the future will see Meyer stay true to Gator Nation or dart for South Bend to awaken the Irish's former greatness.
